What is the difference between the two methods of encapsulation? Basically, the placenta is either steamed before dehydrating (Steamed preparation) or it is dehydrated from raw (Simple preparation). The Steamed preparation is loosely based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles, with lemon (grounding), ginger (circulation) and chilli (warming) in the steaming water. Feedback from mothers is directly comparable for both preparations, so whichever you choose, you end up with very potent capsules. On a practical level, the Simple preparation tends to yield 10-15% more capsules than Steamed and the majority of new mothers opt for this preparation. What Areas Do You Cover? I am happy to cover the any area. This may mean that the mum would have to pay an additional collection charge to carry out the placenta encapsulation. However, if there is an Irish placenta /ipen trained specialist closer to a mum I will gladly refer the mum to that specialist, as to keep the encapsulation cost down. What if I have a Caesarean Section, Can I still have my placenta encapsulated? Absolutely! Your placenta will perfect for placenta encapsulation, Caesarean births do not affect the encapsulation process. I am hoping to having a water birth? You can certainly have a water birth but you must leave the water before you birth your placenta. The placenta must be delivered onto a clean dry surface to avoid any contamination, which may render the placenta unsafe for consumption. Do I have to ask for permission for my placenta to be released? No - Your placenta is your legal property. However, you must tell your midwives & consultants that you wish to keep it & that it must not be disposed of. How do I keep my placenta safe after birth? Your placenta will need to start chilling within 30 minutes of its arrival, so it reaches less than 8°c within 4 hours, so make sure your birth partner, attending midwife and consultant are fully aware of your wishes. I will provide you with detailed guidelines to share with them on how to safely handle your placenta and I provide an electric cool box and safe storage packs as part of their service.Once the placenta is placed into the container and then in the electric cool the cool box can be plugged in and it will bring your placenta down below 8°c, then your birth partner will call me and we will arrange collection, your placenta is safe in the electric cool box once the cool box is plugged in.
